Review Date: 2007-03-14 Pros: None Cons: None Other Thoughts: It's a really good 'one-stop shop' for games, but I had the same version (service build 1.2.0.1256) for over a year with no signs of updating, like maximizing it to the user's current resolution, and opening the user's default browser instead of being tied to IE. Also, some different skins would be nice, like XPs Windows Classic. Also, the version # stated is wrong. It says 1.2.0.994.
The version I downloaded from the 'SERVER 1: Software Author' link was 1.2.0.1256.
Yes, it will require you to download the Realarcade game player in order to download and activate the game. I believe you will also need to create an account.
This is all free and what that will do is store your purchased games, then if ever a problem you can go to your account at Realarcade and redownload the game/games. I've been a member of Realarcade for about 4 years, but recently cancelled my account due to too mamy issues. Still have lots of their games though and have no problem playing them.
I just don't have their GamePass anymore, but I can still redownload my purchased games, etc. Anyway, you should have no problem if you don't mind the game player. Hello and thanks for the link. I have played this before and enjoyed it.
To sukibabe I was able to download this from the web page onto Version 1.4 of Real Arcade. I too had massive problems which took a month to resolve but was fortunate in that I was able to finally reinstall Version 1.4 of Real Arcade. The whole experience with the upgrade (to 2.3 Web Based) and the secrecy plus all the problems led me to promptly cancel my Gamepass membership (plus I think Bigfish have a better selection). I share your frustration with Real Arcade although I do have a good selection of their games and am fortunate that they all work well now. I installed RealArcade a couple of weeks ago, but games they told me I could get for free wouldn't work right or wouldn't load correctly into their Arcade Player. I went around in circles with their so-called 'customer service' until I finally told them I was going to uninstall the Arcade Player.
They kept sending me 'help', yet it was obvious that the people who were supposedly trying to help me were not even reading my e-mails, as I would spell out the problems and their responses were totally unrelated. I told them to quit emailing me. The continued to email with help that had nothing to do with my problems, so I told them I was not only uninstalling their Arcade Player, but I was also going to remove their RealPlayer from my PC. They replied yet again with an apologetic email that did not address the issue. I emailed them one final time, telling them to leave me alone, and also letting them know that if they emailed me one more time that I would report them to the proper authorities (whatever the heck THAT means!).
I never heard from them again.:-) -Dan. Lonehiker - I believe the error you are getting is because you do not have the newest version of the 'installer' installed. I am still using their older software, so I'm not certain what you need to do, but you can read up on it here: Look for the topics regarding Realarcade V2. Graylox - As a few others have just mentioned, since they upgraded to this latest web based version of the game player, there have been lots of problems with downloading and playing games, etc.
I still use the old version on my XP PC and Vista Laptop, so I just browse through the message boards to see the latest. It appears that most bugs may be worked out, but I can't be certain. When I downloaded this game, it downloaded and activated on my PC with no problem, but on my laptop, I got the same error as Lonehiker, because it wants me to upgrade to the new version. Anyway, it's been a wild 6 months or more with RealArcade and as CreamyPretzel said, their customer service is awful. You get canned answers regardless of your question, ie: check DirectX, video card, clear temp files, cache, uninstall and reinstall.even when you tell them you've already done this. So, it's up to each person whether to give it a shot or not.
This is an older game and pretty much like Bookworm, so if you already have that one, you may not need this one also. It is free though, and that's always a good thing! Those clowns at RealArcade even told me in one email (after I said I was going to delete RealPlayer from my PC) that they were even willing to call me on the phone to help me.
I figured that if they were as good on the phone as they were on the web, then I was much better off without the call. By the way, I kept my RealPlayer, as I use it to save video that I see on the web, which is a function that Windows MediaPlayer doesn't have.
But it was a real kick saying that I was going to dump it, just so I could see them sweat. They promised a phone call, so they must be hurting for customers. They could learn a thing or two from BigFish Games. I downloaded OCEAN EXPRESS from BigFish Games last May. The puzzle-making function did not work, but the actual game did. I finally got around to letting them know about it in February, and they could not supply a fix, but instead gave me a FREE game credit. THAT, my friends, is called CUSTOMER SERVICE.
And that is why, if I see a game on BigFish that I like, I will buy it from them (for only 6.99). I bought INGENIOUS from them about a week before it showed up here for free, but at least it wasn't RealArcade getting my money! Real has yet again changed their game version and installer! I just ran the V2 R2 test on my Desktop that runs the new system.
RealArcade: V2.4.0.141 Installer: V2.4.0.141 See my other posts on RA Here: This page also has a link to the V2 R2 test, which tells you what version you have on your machine. I might give it a go on my laptop.
I know when I click my Eval link, they know I don't have the latest version installed, so I haven't been doing the Betas on it! I had found the program folder were all my RA games were and sent a shortcut to my desktop, just in case of future screw-ups! I believe on that page I also said where to find them.
Now you know why I am a Big Fish Member! $6.99 all the time, anytime! RA, used to be $7.99, now raised to $9.99, only one game a month at that price, all others $14.95, lmao!
Dan-Tell them you want Tier 2 Tech support! Robm Yes it did download to V1.4 just fine! I believe the problem is when the switched over to the new system in May 2007, all newer games added after that date would require the new system. Since this game was on their old system(I played it when they had a cheap deal going, when I was still a member to see if I liked it)that is why it didn't mess with V1.4! Thanks for letting me know! After I had to re-download(or I believe, over write) all my games(about 75)because the new system did not recognize them, which is stupid in itself, because they said it would,Lmao! There were however 2 games I had problems with 'Poker Superstars Invitational' (don't think it's in their data base anymore) and 'Diamond Detective' (which now shows up as online only)!
To get Diamond Detective, I had to come back here to the post with the link from it! 'Poker Superstars' is still in my games folder, but will not show up in the new RA player! So make sure you find that game folder and put it in a safe place! I can't even get their download manager to work to get the player download! As I recall the same thing happened several times when they had a free game offer in Reader's Digest. All I get is their page with a bunch of boxes with red X's and nothing happens! So who knows!
Maybe there was a reason I originally deleted it from my machine?? What I have in my download folder in explorer is Realone player v2. Got 12/2002, RP 10 gold 8/7/05, wonder if either of these would work? Those are mainly their 'players', and don't pertain to their games! Well, they screwed it up again with the new version I listed above,Lmao! I tried it this afternoon, and I can't download demos again, just hangs up! The 2.3 version worked, but it had a different installer, now they made the version and installer the same again!
I think this is where their problem is. But, they are smarter than a fifth grader, NOT! The reason they didn't prompt me to upgrade, is the fact that I removed every trace of the V2 versions on my Laptop. Something they taught me how to do! They have stuff hidden on your pc, that if you didn't know where to look you would never find it, or for that matter how to take it off! I wouldn't buy from them again anyway!
Open My Computer Navigate to: C:Program Files RealArcade Installer uninstaller In here you will find scripts for every game you have installed as well as the scripts to uninstall RAC v2 First run: fullclientrar.rguninst Second run: fullcatalograr.rguninst Third run: Appresourcerar.rguninist Last run: Realarcade.rguninist These steps will uninstall the new real arcade without affecting your games. I would do what I did, send the games folder to your desktop first. I have a folder on my Desktop called my games, I just dragged the folder to it.
Are you running Vista? These instructions are for XP.
I have XP Media Center(aka xp pro). As for the V2 R2 tests I saw you tried on the Galapago page, I tried it from the link and I am using Firefox, lol, you should have seen what they said! Somewhere in the jumble of errors, I saw they had detected that I had V1 installed.
I don't think they like Firefox, as the new site always opens in IE. I even tried going thru Firefox on my Desktop, it brought up the page no problem, this time I saw download and buy buttons, but I couldn't download the game using Fox. I like messing with Mikey at Tier 2 Tech support at RA, I think it's about time I sent him another Email! It seems when they match the version and the installer I can't download the demos. I didn't install the 2 Evals we got because I already played the Demos from BF 2-3 weeks ago. I was always able to download them, they use a different address.
Will see if that corrects my problem on the desktop. I'm surprised at the problems you guys are having with RA mentioned here and on the Galapagos thread. I haven't had any problems with them as far as the games go. I do have trouble getting them to install where i want. It seems when I get a new game a new 'Real' folder is created instead of the new game going where the old ones are. As a result I have 3 folders now. Anybody know how to stop that from happening?
I did just get the free Acropolis and the game pass as well so now I have credit for a second free game. Not a bad deal. From reading the posts in the RA forums, some people have absolutely no problems with either the old version or the new version of RealArcade. I had had no problems until I tried to put this (Acropolis) game on my Vista machine. I had downloaded demo games from RA on it up to about a week ago without the prompt to upgrade. Buckleysmom - Here is how my games show up: In my C:Program Files I have a folder called 'Real' and within that is RealArcade which is the game player installer, also RealGames which is empty (???). In my C:MyGames each game that I have has its own folder with the game files.
Not sure why these are here and not in the RealGames folder. Then in C:MyDownloadFiles is each games installer. It would be nice if they were all in the same place, but they're not.
Is this what you're seeing? I'm going to try downloading a different demo game from my V1.2 version on my Vista and see what happens. Maybe I'll get lucky. I'm willing to try the new version, I just don't have the time now to have to redownload all of my games.so I've been putting it off.
I have always been happy with RealArcade until I had a few problems and had to deal with their customer service. That is everyone's biggest complaint, if they would fix that they may not loose so many customers.
